Diary of a KGIC residence summer camp student

KGIC surrey summer camp

Check out what happened at KGIC’s first ever Global Leaders Summer Camp at the University of British Columbia!

7:00 – Wake up! Get ready for school – so easy since living on campus means getting to wake up later. Remember to make the bedJ

7:30 – Head over to the cafeteria for a breakfast buffet. Toast, cereal, even some eggs – lots of food to give you energy for the day ahead.

8:30 – Meet my classmates and teacher to walk to class. UBC is so big but it’s nice to chat with your teacher on the way.  Start practicing English even before you get to class!

9:00 – 12:00 – Vocabulary! And so much speaking! So many words, but the teachers help students practise all the time. Keep working on your goals – like becoming more confident! Setting small goals every day and every week definitely helps. By the time you leave, your goals can be met.

12:00 – 1:00 – Finally lunchtime! Buffet again, so you can choose from lots of things. Even vegetables! (That’s right Mom and Dad – they can still eat their carrots). Hang out with friends and finish dessert.

2:00 – 5:00 – Head to the biggest park in Vancouver, actually in Canada – Stanley Park! Good thing you don’t need to walk around the whole thing…it would take so long. Check out the totem poles too.

Or for the top students – an awesome prize of horseback riding! What a great reward for working hard.

6:00 – 7:00 Time for everyone’s favourite food –  pizza! The buffet is great but it’s nice to sit on the grass and munch on some pepperoni pizza with friends.

7:00 – 8:00 Dance night! Watch a real hip-hop dancer and learn how to hip hop yourself. A fun way to end the day.

9:00 – Quiet time in the dorms. Send a quick e-mail to Mom and Dad letting them know how much fun we had. Then time for some sleep – need some zzzzs before another fun day.
